ABSENCES

Each day when your child is absent for illness or for any reason, families must call the Jefferson School office prior to 8:00 AM and leave a message (203-899-2870 ext. 2). This will alert us to not expect your child in school. This is for the safety of your child. Any child absent without calling us will get a call from the office.

When returning to school, you child must return to school with a note giving the reason for the child’s absence.

In the case of a prolonged absence (three days or more) or communicable disease, please call our School Nurse, Mrs. Jaeger at 203-899-2870 ext. 3 and send a note when your child returns to school.

DISMISSALS

Parent drop-off and pickup areas are often congested. For this reason we ask that all parents who are coming into the school in the morning or at dismissal to please park in the parking lot on the Grandview side of the school. In the parking  lot and on Grandview Avenue, please obey the traffic signs. This is for the safety of our children.

Please send a note giving the reason for the request for an early dismissal. Reasons for “Early Dismissals” should be for extenuating purposes only, i.e, doctor’s appointment, etc., reasons other than this impact the amount of instruction time for your child and disrupts the class already in session.

Early dismissal can be made only to a responsible adult.

If your child is to be picked up by someone other than yourself or if he/she is to go home with a classmate, or if his/her normal mode of transportation requires a change, two notes are necessary.

A note from the parent/guardian giving permission for the change and a note from the

“receiving adult” acknowledging the responsibility of caring for your child is required.

PARKING

PLEASE. USE ONLY THE DESIGNATED PARKING SPACES IN THE LOT ACROSS FROM GRANDVIEW AVENUE FOR DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP YOUR CHILD.

When dropping off your child, do not get out of your car. Children should exit at the end of the parking lot and cross Grandview Street with the Crossing Guard.

STAFF ONLY PARKING – The parking lot on the north side of the school is for staff only. Children are not to be dropped off in this area.

 IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY:

Parents are advised by the Norwalk Board of Education to accompany their elementary school children to school Bus Stops each morning and to meet them in the afternoon. THAT IS A “MUST” FOR PARENTS OF KINDERGARDEN STUDENTS.

In the event of an emergency early dismissal, plans should be made for your children to be in the care of a responsible adult (yourself or someone designated by you). Please discuss the plans with your child.
